Tattoo Removal Dark Skin

Laser Tattoo Removal?

Hi..I would like to know if anyone has any info about this procedure that they can share. I am looking for real answers please as I am beyond the “you should have thought about it b4 you got it done” we all make mistakes. I am and African American with dark skin and wanted to know if I am a good canditate for tattoo removal by laser. The ink is Black and was done professionally. the area is about 2.5 * 2.5 inches and it is more of an outline…it doesn’t have too much shading. I also wanted to know if anyone knows how the lenghth of time the ink has been in the skin affects removal. Some websites say older tattoos are harder to remove, and some websites say the opposite that new tattoos are harder to remove. Any comments or personal experiences anyone can share is greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has tried any Doctors in the Washington DC, Maryland or Virginia area that they are satisfied with please share thier information. Thanks in advance

I’m in the UK so I’m afraid I can’t personally tell you about any good tattoo removal centres near you!

But – yes, you probably are a perfectly good candidate for removal. The time it has been there isn’t so much the essential factor, more a case of how well it was done originally (a good tattooist will lay the ink in well and it will be harder to erase) and how good the quality of the ink was (again, the better quality, the harder to erase).

I have never had any of my tattoos removed (and don’t want to) but I have several friends who have. Do bear in mind that it can be very expensive indeed (that comes as a shock to some people). I’m told it is uncomfortable to have one removed, but certainly not really painful, and no worse than having a tattoo done in the first place. Also, if there is any scarring or raised skin from the tattoo, there isn’t much a laser removal can do to remove that.

And of the people I know who have had a tattoo removed, although they’ve all had excellent removal jobs, if you knew the tattoo was there you can still *just about* see where it was. Although I don’t think anyone else would spot the place!

I think your best bet would be to make appointments at a couple of clinics and ask for advice and cost quotations, and see what each place has to say about it. A proper dermatologist could give you much more advice and a better idea of possible post-removal results than I could! Also, you could find out if different places give you a consistent answer as to how visible/invisible the ex-tattoo and would be.
